Solution: Given is the curve y = (x2 + 5x + 4)/(x+ 1) Here the degree of the numerator is 2 and the degree of the denominator is 1. The degree of the numerator is greater than the degree of the denominator. The numerator can be factored as (x2 + 5x + 4) = (x + 4) (x + 1). The denominator is (x + 1) dividing gives (x + 4) (x +1)/ (x + 1) = x + 4. Hence the slant asymptote is y = x + 4.
